Wexford – Wexi-cans & Wexi-can’ts
Wexicans, Yellow-bellies or Wexfordians (if you have notions) are absolutely gas. I have never met people more proud of a fruit in all my life – although in fairness their strawberries are amazing.
Wexicans speak with an accent that sounds like it’s from somewhere between Wales and Waterford — kind of sing-songy, soft, a bit hard to place and impossible to imitate.
Wexford is known as Ireland’s sunny south east. I have been witness to at least three separate incidents involving Wexicans describing their county as the “Irish Riviera”.
Wexford’s “tropical climate” is responsible for the largest migration of Dubs since the famine. Migrating Dubliners will tell you that north Wexford is attractive due to its abundance of fresh air, blue flag beaches, farmland… and the ability to buy a sixty-four bedroom house for the less than half the cost of a Government bike shed in Dublin. 😜
When not having a daily sun induced siesta – Wexicans are probably the hardest working people in Ireland. This is mainly due to not wanting to be shown up by their bitter rivals Kilkenny and Waterford.
Are you a “Wexi-Can or a Wexi-Can’t”? 😜
