Saint Brigid’s Cross – I’m not explaining this again for you
Brigid had the patience of a saint trying to explain the cross to the pagans.
She laid out the rushes.
She folded them carefully.
She explained the symbolism, the protection, the whole lot.
The pagans nodded.
Then immediately asked if it was for luck, for vibes, or just a decorative thing.
One of them asked if it would still work if you hung it sideways.
Another wondered if last year’s cross was still grand or if you needed a fresh one “for insurance”.
Someone else said, “Right, but why does it look like that?”
Brigid sighed.
Deeply.
Spiritually.
She held up the cross and said:
“I’m not explaining this again for you.”
And that’s why, to this day, the cross works perfectly — but only if you don’t ask stupid questions.
