Wedged between, “the Responsible One” and “the Baby of the Family”, I am the middle child of my family. I am the sandwich filler – a thin sheet of delicious ham that was barely seen between two slices of white bread named Damien and Avril.

Feeling left out of the recent internet fuelled invention of “PAY ATTENTION TO ME” self-diagnosed conditions – I decided to embrace my inner-narcissist and adopt a condition that would absolve me of any past, present or future bad behaviour. Accountability will now only be reserved for people without the trauma of being a middle child.

Hello, I am Ray Hurley and I have ‘Middle Child Syndrome’.

According to the internet my symptoms can include the feeling of neglect or being overlooked, as some middle children may feel that they do not receive the same attention as their older and younger siblings. I may also exhibit behaviour that seeks to gain attention, such as acting out or developing a competitive nature.

As a result of this debilitating condition – I may be prone to believing internet pseudo-phycologists on social media and be allowed to make an absolute show of myself at the next Hurley family get-together. 😜😂
