Irish people always need reassurance if you are not copying the behaviours of your peers in the pub. To go against the grain is considered to be impolite unless you have a valid reason. The biggest example of this is not drinking with your peers. The only way to side step this is the famous line, “I’m on the Antibiotics” and watch the heads nod in acceptance. The message quickly filters throughout the bar and people now understand why you can’t drink 😜😂
