The one particular scene that always stands out for me is the torture of protagonist Teddy by the British military upon his refusal to give up the names of fellow IRA members during a gruesome interrogation. The steely resolve of Teddy and his courage of his convictions reflect a nation longing for independence after seven-hundred years under British rule.
